The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be held responsible for the humiliation of Nigerians abroad because it is is a direct consequence of the misgovernance of the ruling party.

Secondus said this in a statement titled, ‘Secondus seeks stiffer penalty on Indonesia…Bemoans the debasing of Nigerians abroad,’ signed by his Media Adviser, Ike Abonyi, in Abuja, on Thursday.

Recall that a Nigerian diplomat was humiliated and beaten by Indonesian officials and this caught the attention of the country after the video went viral. Reports claim Indonesia has apologized.

However, the PDP chairman urged the Federal Government to apply the stiffest allowable penalty on Indonesia over the humiliating treatment mated out to the Nigerian diplomat by its security officials.

The statement read in part, “Secondus, who expressed deep discontent on the matter, charged Nigerian government to apply no constraints in responding to the unprovoked and unwarranted manhandling of the Nigerian diplomat.

“No Nigerian should receive such dehumanizing treatment, more so to a diplomat who enjoys some privileges while on duty to any country.

“He said every reasonable step should be taken including recalling the Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia and/or the expulsion of their ambassador here if adequate remorse and commensurate punishment is not meted out to those Indonesian officials.”

In response, the National Secretary of the APC, Senator John Anpanudodehe said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a Press Conference on the issue yesterday, recalled our diplomat from there, invited their High Commissioner to the Ministry and presented demands for action on the side of the Government of Indonesia.

“There is a report that the Government of Indonesia is investigating the incident. So, the APC-led FGN has responded in line with the best international norms and proceedures under the circumstances.”
