The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has revealed why he endorsed Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, over former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, for the party’s presidential ticket.

Before the party’s presidential primary, there were reports that Adamu had backed Lawan to fly the APC’s flag.

But, this was strongly resisted by the party’s governors who insisted on power shift to the south.

Tinubu eventually clinched the ticket and Adamu said his choice of Lawan was due to the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate.

He made this known in an interview with Daily Trust.

“It is true that after consultations at the appropriate and different levels of the party, we had reasons to believe that he (Lawan) was the best at the time.

“And that was motivated partially by the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to field former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“And they have been upbeat that the position of the president must go to the South. We also know, as a matter of fact, that the PDP is predominantly entrenched in the South East, and to some extent, South South”.
