The Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, says poverty in Nigeria is artificial and created by the government.

Prince Adebayo, who made this known when he featured on a radio show, On Record, noted that a large portion of the nation’s weath is stolen by a few.

According to him, poverty is not a punishment from God because it was not “known to us in the past”.

While noting that voters will be responsible for deciding who emerges, the renowned lawyer urged them to make the right choice, noting that he has what it takes to return the nation back to its original state of wealth.

His words: “The root of poverty in Nigeria is the government because the nature itself does not want us to he poor. If you wake up in some communities, a mango can fall on your head, you can see yam growing by itself. You can see water in front of your village with fish strolling across your front . You can we animals in the bush jumping up and down.

“So you can see that nature around you is not a punishment from God because he didn’t put on a desert, he didn’t put us on a rocky land. He put us in a land that is paradise and very futile. So poverty did not enter Nigeria until modern Nigeria.”

The presidential hopeful added: “The people who are poor in Nigeria are being robbed by the government. The money that was damaged yesterday, if the government account for it, even 90% no body will go to bed hungry.”

Explaining how poverty can be alleviated through job creation, Prince Adebayo said the agricultural sector can accommodate about 43 million graduates if public funds are not stolen, adding that the military can also employ over 1million Nigerians.

He further stated that “Nigeria is line a family it 10 that are being given one trailer or something ice but their Uncle sells all or it and gives them 2 bags for a month and someone is saying how do we ration it. You have to go back to the original question — how many bags or something rice is the bag entitled to.

“So what you need to ask yourself before poverty is, how much money is the country making.”

According to him, 1% of the population is stealing about 90 per cent of the nation’s income and a about 90% have to manage the remaining.

However, the SDP flagbearer urged Nigerians to elect a government that will ensure accountability stay out of poverty.
