Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State has placed a ban on the ongoing #EndSARS protests across the country.

The governor made this known in a statement signed by
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, on Monday.

Protests across the country calling for an end to police brutality entered its fifth day on Monday.

Despite the Federal Government disbanding the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit, the protest escalated with a Police Inspector and civilian killed in Surulere, Lagos State.

In a bid to avoid similar fate, the Rivers State Government warned Nigerians to stay away from the streets.

“The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State,” the statement reads.

“Therefore, all proposed protests under #End SARS Campaign are hereby prohibited.

“Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

“Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.”

The state government, however, warned parents and guardians to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.

It also urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.
