Wizkid’s song, ‘Come Closer’ certified gold in Australia, platinum in UK

Grammy winner and Afrobeat singer, Ayo Balogun professionally known as Wizkid, has attained gold and platinum with his song ‘Come Closer’, which was released in 2017 with Canadian rapper, Drake.

The song, ‘Come Closer’ has now been certified platinum in the UK and gold in Australia.

The afrobeat artist recently won his biggest award, a Grammy, with ‘Brown Skin Girl’.

He won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album for both Grammy and NAACP in March 14 and 26 respectively.

According to the BRITS Certified Awards website, songs are awarded platinum status when they achieve 600,000 units of sales. The records are awarded the gold status for 400,000 units and silver for 200,000 units.

This result would be based on Official Charts Company data.

A tweet from Africa Facts Zone also confirmed the win. It reads: “Wizkid’s Come Closer ft. Drake has gone Platinum (600,000 sales) in the UK and Gold (35,000 sales) in Australia.”

The mixing engineer for the song, Leandro Hidalgo, also took to his Instagram account to show plaque of his achievement.
