A 60-year-old woman, Oluranti Adisa, on Thursday appeared in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, for allegedly refusing to pay back N2.5 million loan she received from a salon.
The police charged Adisa, whose address was not given with four counts of conspiracy, fraud, theft and causing breach of public peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Agboh Boniface told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov 5, 2019 at the Grooming Centre Salon in Abeokuta.
Boniface alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected N2.5 million as loan from the centre, with a promise to pay N10,000 daily.
He alleged that the defendant refused to pay back the loan and acted a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace when the centre demanded for their money.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390(9); 419; and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Olarewaju Onogoruwa admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Onogoruwa ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must show evidence of tax to the Ogun Government.
He however, adjourned the case untill Feb. 5 for trial.
