196 new cases, 7 more deaths and slower recovery rate challenge Nigeria’s COVID-19 efforts

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had on Wednesday confirmed 196 new cases of COVID-19 in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The announcement which was made by the agency through its twitter handle showed that the country recorded its highest daily figure since the first case was announced on February 27.

Nigeria also recorded seven deaths from the disease on Wednesday, bringing the total number of deaths to 51 from 44 on the previous day.

According to the health agency:

“196 new cases of #COVID19 reported; 87-Lagos 24-Kano 18-Gombe 17-Kaduna 16-FCT 10-Katsina 8-Sokoto 7-Edo 6-Borno 1-Yobe 1-Ebonyi 1-Adamawa.

“As at 11:55 pm 29th April- 1728 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 307 Deaths: 51,” NCDC wrote.

With the latest announcement, COVID-19 has now spread to 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Yobe State is the most recent state to record a case of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that so far, the country’s case summary showed that while the total number of people tested in the country stands at 12,004, the total confirmed cases are 1,728.

307 patients have recovered while 51 deaths has been recorded.
