The Yorubas were at the weekend asked to ensure one of their own assume the presidency in 2023 by voting for the All Progressives Congress ,APC,presidential candidate President
Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.
Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN , made this call in the ancient town of Oyo ,Oyo State during a courtesy call on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111in his palace shortly before his meeting with
traders at the Atiba Town Hall,Oyo where he promised them that the Trader Moni empowerment programme of the Federal Government would soon be extended to them in the town.
At the meeting with the traders, Osinbajo cautioned them not to fall to scammers, noting that those who had come to them with form and collected N1,500 from each of them were fraudsters not sent by the Federal Government.
The VP said “some people are saying that APC is collecting traders’ PVC and BVN, it is all lies. The money we give is transfered through phone without collecting any such details from anybody, don’t fall for their antics”.
On the 2019 presidential election, Osinbajo maintained that Yorubas’ vote for the return of PMB for another term in office is a sure ticket for Yoruba presidency in 2023, saying,
“Yoruba have a crucial role to play in the 2019 elections to ensure that APC wins. We are looking at 2023, if we don’t do well in 2019, the opportunity might evade us.
“We should be forward-looking and not spoil our future by allowing those who had plundered our nation to come back to government. They have been coalescing again to continue the plunder but God shall not allow them.
“If one is building a house, he has to construct a very solid foundation. The foundation might not be easily noticed but when it is built on, the house will emerge.
What I know about President Buhari is that he is an honest person and he is trustworthy. Whatever he says he will do, he always strive to do it. If we look at the level of corruption that had taken place, it was humongous. We should not allow it to continue again”, Osinbajo appealed.
The VP extolled the virtues of Alaafin, whom he described as a solid foundation for the APC in Oyo State and as a bundle of wisdom.
His words; “He is full of wisdom and political sagacity which is not taught in any University. I don’t know much professors that have written as much as our Baba Alaafin.
“He is a man of integrity, reason we are following him. It is not easy to lead Yoruba people. Many of our leaders including Asiwaju Tinubu do come to Alaafin to seek his wisdom. May you live longer for us and continue your support for us”, Osinbajo said further.
In his remark, the host governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi said “Oyo State is peaceful and enjoying better security compared to the era of past governments because Alaafin is on ground. He is unarguably the most intellectual and intelligent Kabiyesi in the whole of Yorubaland. Baba is a friend of APC, once he is behind one, all the elements both spiritual and physical are in one’s support.
“The coming 2019 elections is between Hausa and Yoruba on one hand and Hausa and Igbo on the other side. It is only a bastard in Yorubaland that will not support APC. The glutton on the opposite side has wasted our resources yet they want to come back, don’t allow them”, the governor pleaded.
In his response, the Oyo monarch praised
Osinbajo as a true son of Yorubaland and a true representative of the Yorubaland at the Federal Government level. He prayed that “God will do for us what we are expecting in the nearest future”.
Kabiyesi also lauded Ajimobi for entrenching the culture of peace and security in Oyo State against what had been experienced before the inception of the present administration.
In attendance to welcome the VP at Alaafin’s palace were the kingmakers (Oyo-Mesi), APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Adebayo Adelabu, Senator Teslim Folarin, Babafemi Ojudu, Retired Arch Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Chief Imam of Oyo Town Sheik Abdulganiy Ajokidero, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi among several others including APC candidates for various elective offices in 2019 elections.
