The presidential flagbearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has vowed to give the All Progressives Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  a good fight at next year’s general elections.

Adebayo made the pledge during his acceptance speech today after emerging as the SDP’s presidential candidate.

The renowned legal practitioner scored 1,526 votes at the party’s National Convention in Abuja to emerge as its standard-bearer, defeating the only co-contestant, Khadija Lamidi who polled 83 votes.

In his address, Adebayo said his emergence will usher in a “new window for social justice” in the country.

The media entrepreneur also promised to “lift Nigeria from rock-bottom” having been plagued by insecurity, hunger, education crisis and many others.

“We’ll give PDP and APC a good fight,” he said. “We will campaign to every household, every polling unit, every ward, every local government, every state, every zone and the entire country.

“We’ll tell the people where their money is – in the pocket of APC and PDP. We’ll show to Nigerians that food, water, housing, electricity, medical care, education and others are not prayer points but your rights”.

He, however, urged Nigerians to follow five key steps to make positive change in 2023.

First, he said they should join the SDP.

The 50-year-old said the next step is to register to vote and then be ready to open their minds.

He equally urged citizens to tell others and finally “vote them out”.

The presidential candidate thanked the other aspirants who contested the position with him, including those that withdrew along the way.

He thanked the SDP delegates for not going for money bags politicians or those who want to perpetually remain in power but voted for a fresh person.

He said that the SDP had demonstrated that a party could conduct credible convention and that politicians could subdue their interests for the national interest.

On his part, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, the SDP National Chairman encouraged those who participated in the election to be part of the campaign, saying it was a joint project.

He said that the party would change the face and character of governance in Nigeria if given a chance to rule in 2023.

Gabam said that the party considered it expedient to present itself to Nigerians as a veritable alternative, advocating a new initiative in the administration of the country.

He said that it was time for the country to get it right in the 2023 general elections.
