Former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, says he will assist renowned legal practitioner, Prince Adewole Adebayo, to achieve his presidential ambition.
Babangida made the promise on Tuesday when Adebayo led his campaign team on a consultation visit to his Minna hilltop residence.
Adebayo, a leading member of the Steering Committee of the National Consultative Front (NCF), was accompanied by former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, ex-lawmaker representing Anambra South, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, High Chief Peter Ameh, Dr. Tanko Yunusa mong others.
Recall that another former military leader, Abdulsalami Abubakar, had pledged to assist the 50-year-old achieve success.
“I am happy that you are thinking of moving Nigeria forward and I believe with your ideology, your youthfulness and vibrant ambition, Nigeria is on the right path to greatness again,” Abdulsalami had said.
“Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million people is certainly a great country. I thank you once again for finding me fit for this visit and I shall do all that I can to assist in the success of your ambition”.
Towing the same line, IBB described Adebayo as a man that has the unity of the nation at heart.
He, therefore, vowed to do his best to assist the media mogul achieve his ambition.
“I am glad you came with all sections of Nigeria among the delegation. Meaning you have the Unity of Nigeria at heart. At my time, I have people from all over the country working in my government and that makes everyone feel they are Nigerians,” IBB said.
“We need to change the narrative in Nigeria. I promise to do the best I can to assist you in your ambition”.
In his speech, Prince Adebayo thanked the statesman for his leadership style which according to him, will still be enjoyed by generations yet unborn.
Adebayo told IBB, “All the things you got right are the things we are enjoying till date. Nigerians have no need to think of moving to a new Federal Capital Territory because you got it right. We aren’t thinking of what to do with our Stock Exchange because you got it right, the things you couldn’t finish are the only things left that we couldn’t do up till today.
“You gave Nigerians everything and that is why we are what we are today as Nigerians. I threw stones against policies you made for the good of Nigerians as a Student in the 90s, today, I have seen that those policies were the best for us as a Country. It takes a good leader to take decisions you took for us as a Country”.
Speaking after the visit, Adebayo added, “Former President Babangida believed that we should not negotiate the unity of this country irrespective of the challenges we are facing. He also advised me that if I must succeed as the president of Nigeria, I must practice a mini-Nigeria every time, even in my house.
“He said that even in your domestic affairs, when someone looks around he must see a mini-Nigeria setting there. He added that even in your thinking, when you are alone, you must think holistically, not a sector of it. That you must take advice from all parts of the country”.
