The National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, on Tuesday, denied resigning his position.

Reports in some sections of the media had claimed that Akpanudoedehe left the party’s national secretariat at Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, with all his belongings on Tuesday.

It was reported that the former lawmaker reportedly tendered his resignation letter to the acting caretaker chairman of the APC, Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello of Niger State.

However, in a chat with newsmen at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Akpanudoedehe described the news as false and baseless, asking party members to disregard the news.

The former Senator said he will only resign when asked to do so by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Akpanudoedehe asserted that he is still the bonafide secretary of the APC Caretaker Committee, adding that he is still waiting for Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State to come back from his medical trip in Dubai.

“I have read in social media that I have resigned as Secretary of the APC. I want to state that it is not true; that I didn’t resign. If I have resigned, you would have seen my letter of resignation written by me. Someone cannot just say somebody is dead when he is alive.

“I am not bigger than the party, or bigger than the President who is a leader of the country. I am waiting for the national chairman to come back.

“If we have a directive from the president that we should resign, we are not bigger than the president, we will do so if we hear from him. I am stating here that the breaking news is not from me. I don’t know who announced it.”

Akpanudoedehe also denied the media reports that he had moved his belongings out of the party premises.

He said, “I don’t have any load. I come here and I leave. I have never changed my furniture. The photograph is official. I have not packed anything. I have not received any letter.

“Someone cannot say, ‘the president said.’ I have not received any letter from anywhere. As I said, nobody is bigger than the party. The issue is that, have I resigned, the answer is no. I am the national secretary of the party”.
