The National Chairman, Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Mai Mala Buni, has reacted to the order of a Delta State High Court in Asaba, which restrained an APC chairman from acting in that capacity, saying it did not refer to him.
According to Buni, who is also the governor of Yobe State, the Court’s order was directed at the Delta state Caretaker Chairman, and not him, Buni.
He said this on Thursday via a statement issued by his Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, in Abuja.
A High Court in Asaba, Delta State, presided by Justice Onome Umukoro also suspended the APC local government congress scheduled for Saturday, September 4, 2021 in Delta State.
The suit was filed by Delta APC deputy chairman, Elvis Ayomanor, and other top officials of the party in the state over disputes arising from the controversial July 10th ward congress held therein.
Lead counsel for the APC chieftains, Daubry Richard, prayed the court to grant the following;
“An order of interim injunction of this Honourable Court restraining the 2nd to 14th Defendants/Respondents from further acting or parading themselves as the members of the Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the 1st Defendant pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed and served in the suit.
“Alternatively, An order of interim injunction of this Honourable Court restraining the 2nd-14th Defendants/Respondents from conducting the Local Government and State Congresses slated for September 4, 2021 or any other date, and other Congresses of the 1st Defendant in Delta State, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice already filed and served.
“An order of interim injunction of this Honourable Court restraining the 2nd to 14th Defendants/Respondents from further acting or parading themselves as the members of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the 1st Defendant pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice already filed and served in the suit.”
