The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) gained over 28 million new members in less than a year, according to Secretary of the Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), James Akpan Udo-Edehe.

Udo-Edehe said the party’s membership has reached 40 million.

He disclosed this on Monday when the chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, played host to some designated non-career ambassadors at the party secretariat, in Abuja.

Buni was appointed caretaker committee chairman in June last year following a crisis that consumed former leader, Adams Oshiomhole.

Akpan Udo-Edehe said before the committee commenced the just-concluded membership registration, revalidation and update exercise, the membership strength was about 12 million.

Addressing the new diplomats, Akpan Udo-Edehe said: “We are blessed to have a focused and gentle Chairman. When he came on board, we lost ground. Under his leadership, we have regained what we lost and gained more.

“We had membership strength of 12 million. I want to inform Your Excellencies, under his (Buni) leadership the APC has moved to over 40 million today.”
