The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the by-elections in Imo, Ondo and Cross River States.

Blyden Okanni emerged winner of the Ngor Okpala State Constituency by-election in Imo State.

INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Dennis Akoh, said that Okanni polled 9,248 votes to defeat his closest rival, Emeka Nwachukwu of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored 7,161 votes.

Akoh, a professor at the Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwor (FUNAI) in Ebonyi, said the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Christopher Nwaiwu placed third with 501 votes.

He said out of the 11 candidates that contested the by-election, the only female and candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Joy Nze, got 15 votes.

The returning officer said a total of 18,083 voters were accredited for the poll, out of a total of the 94,118 registered voters in the area.

He said the total valid votes cast were 17,280, while 582 votes were rejected.

In Cross River, Jude Ngaji emerged the winner of the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency bye-election.

The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Dr John Edor, announced the result today in Ogoja.

Edor said that Ngaji scored 22,778 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mike Usibe of the PDP who garnered 20,590 votes.

Reacting Alphonsus Eba, the State APC chairman, commended the INEC for a good job.

“The use of BVAS facilitated free and fair election,” he said.

Eba also commended President Muhammad Buhari for signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2022, into law.

“This will surely strengthen the electoral process,” he said.

Venatius Ikem, the State PDP chairman, said his party was still studying the situation and would respond at the most appropriate time.

“There were discrepancies noticed during the election in many polling units, but the party will respond in due course,” he said.

The election was to fill the vacuum created after Rep. Jarigbe Agom left to represent Cross River North at the Senate.

Meanwhie, Mayokun Lawson clinched the Akure South/Akure North federal constituency of Ondo State.

The APC polled 26,379 to beat six other contestants in the election.

The candidate of the PDP, Olumuyiwa Adu, followed him closely with 24,201 votes, while Oluwawemimo Fadeke of the African Democratic Party (ADP) had 465 votes.

Also, Joseph Ajayi of the All Peoples Party (APP) polled 125 votes, Olaniyi Olufemi of the National Redemption movement (NRM) had 76 votes, Opawole Tajudeen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled 68 votes and Olawale of Accord Party had 41 votes.

Mayokun Lawson Alade of the APC would now replace late Adedayo Omolafe whose death in August last year created a vacuum at the House of Representatives.
