Biography of new Inspector –General of Police, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed
Abubakar Adamu Mohammed has been named as the acting Inspector General
of Police by President Muhammadu Buhari. He replaces retired Inspector
General Ibrahim Idris, who has attained the mandatory 60 years.
An Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and head of the
National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near
Jos, Plateau state, he becomes the 20th man to head the nation’s
Police force.
Mohammed, who hails from Lafia, Nasarawa state, was born on November
9, 1961 and enlisted into the police in 1986.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in geography.
The new police helmsman was at one time, director of peace – keeping
operations, a former police commissioner in Enugu and the AIG in
charge of Zone 5, Benin, Edo state.
Among police circles, he is popularly referred to as Adamu Mohammed
Lafia, in reference to his place of birth, which is the Nasarawa state
capital.
The Nasarawa-born police chief has served with the United Nations
and was for over five years president of INTERPOL.
Also, he served as a former deputy commissioner of police in Ekiti state.
