The lone escapee from a Coronavirus isolation camp in Osun State has been found and returned to camp by the state government.

But the COVID-19 suspect, Ishola Abibat has denied escaping from camp saying they were abandoned at the secondary school designed as isolation Centre, by the state government.

A statement in Oshogbo Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Covic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode announced the return of Mrs Ishola to the isolation Centre at Ejigbo.

She said that the State government was still in the process of tracing individuals she might have come in contact with. The Commissioner also noted that security within and around the Isolation centre has been beefed up .

Mrs. Egbemode assured that the government would continue to enhance measures to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the State.

KaftanPost gathered that Mrs Ishola and other Osun returnees left Abidjan, Ivory Coast to Ibadan via Idi-Iroko, Ogun State on 22nd March, 2020.

The vehicle she boarded was apprehended at Idi-Iroko and everyone on board driven to Unity School, Ejigbo, Osun State on Thursday 26th March, 2020.

A source within the Centre told KaftanPost that “on Thursday 2nd April, 2020, the people kept on the school (isolation Centre) went on rampage. Thereafter, some of them were taken to clinics.

And the person in question, Ishola Abibat, presently is at General Hospital, Idi Gedu, Ejigbo, Osun State. That Ishola Abibat ran away from isolation centre is a lie.”

According to her husband who narrated his wife’s ordeal to KAFTAN Post’s correspondent, they (returnees) were just kept in one secondary school for a week without being catered for, before he came to camp to see her. He said he had to buy food for her.

He said Ishola Abibat, one of the acclaimed run away people affected by corona virus, in Osun State, left Abidjan to Ibadan en-route Idi-Iroko, Ogun State on 22nd March, 2020.

“The vehicle she boarded was apprehended at idi iroko, Ogun State and everyone in the vehicle was taken to Unity School, Ejigbo, Osun State on Thursday, 26th March, 2020.

“When they arrived, she told them that she was going to Ejigbo, where she was transported alongside others.

“Once they arrived in Ejigbo, they were informed that they were suspected of coronavirus and that they would not be allowed to leave until their tests were done.

“They offered to take them to isolation facility where they would be cared for properly, but to their dismay they were dumped at a secondary school in Ejigbo.

“The Abibat later called us, and we had to travel from Ibadan to Ejigbo to visit her.

“Unfortunately, we found that they had been dumped there without any food supply. We simply had to buy food for them and the Abibat carried a little boy with
rashes all over the child’s body.

“They were abandoned without any care and in fact, they were not even tested by the government.

“They were about 120 in number and after days of abandonment, these people decided to leave.

“On Thursday, 2nd April, 2020,the people kept in the school went on rampage, according to information. Thereafter, some of them were taken to clinics. And the person in question, Ishola Abibat, presently is at general hospital, idi gedu, Ejigbo, Osun State. That Ishola Abibat ran away from isolation centre in Osun State is a lie.

“While leaving the isolation centre, because of the continuing lockdown in Osun State, Abibat was unable to make it down to Ibadan. Whatever government says about her,
therefore, is merely a propaganda,” he concluded.

The alleged lack of care, KaftanPost was told, might have been responsible for the revolt in camp before the returnees were transferred to a more humane facility.

KAFTAN Post had earlier reported that Ejigbo and neighbouring towns in Osun State was thrown into panic after some Cote d’Ivoire returnees being examined for coronavirus reportedly absconded.

According to our sources, the 137 Abidjan returnees escaped from Wole Soyinka Government High School, Ejigbo where they were being quarantined.

About a dozen out of the 80 tested returned positive.

However, the remainder grew increasingly impatient with the slow pace of the exercise and resorted to escaping.
