The Republic of Chad has distanced itself from what it described as “misleading” reports wherein President Idriss Deby lamented non-participation of Nigerian troops in the fight against terrorism.

Deby received massive adulation from Nigerians after he led Chadian troops to war against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists at Goje-Chadian area of Sambisa forest on Saturday.

Afterwards, images and videos surfaced in which the Chadian leader accused the Nigerian Army of not coming forth in the war against Boko Haram.

However, in a statement by its embassy to Nigeria, on Wednesday, the ex-French colony denounced such reports, which it said dates back to 2015 when Deby was still the Army Chief.

Deby described President Muhammadu Buhari as his “brother” whom he enjoys exemplary and dynamic cooperation and Nigeria as his number one eeconomic partner.

The statement also hailed Nigerian troops at the forefront of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF).

Chad, however, warned mischief makers that nothing can distract both nations from achieving its common goal.

  1. So as an Army Chief he was critical of the effort of Nigerian troops and Government in the fight against Bokoharam, but now as a civilian president he is praising them… perhaps he now understands the difference between an Army big boy and The President in Chief.
