A Federal High Court in Kano has denied the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) motion to prevent the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from conducting the state’s local government elections on October 26.
The applicants, Aminu Aliyu-Tiga and the APC, through their counsel, Mustapha Idris, filed a move exparte on September 18 and September 20.
The applicants are requesting that the court prohibit KANSIEC from conducting the elections and issue an injunction order directing all parties to maintain the status quo.
The respondents include KANSIEC, Kano State House of Assembly, Kano State Attorney General, INEC, DSS, Kano Commissioner of Police, and the NSCDC state Commandant.
Others include Anas Muhammad-Mustapha, Prof Sani Lawal-Malumfashi, Mukhtar Garba-Dandago, Isyaku Kunya, Shehu Kura, Kabiru Zakirai, and Aminu Inuwa-Fagge.

Justice Simon Amobeda denied the applicants’ pleas, adding that the respondents would be placed on notice to show cause why the prayers should not be granted.
The court also approved an accelerated hearing in this matter.
The judge directed the parties to file all relevant paperwork as soon as possible in order to expedite the hearing and resolution of this matter.
The judge also ordered that no party commit any behavior that might jeopardize the hearing and prompt resolution of this dispute.
Amobeda delayed the hearing to October 4.
According to NAN, a Kano State High Court on September 24 ordered 19 political parties not to take any action that could scuttle or impede the state’s upcoming Local Government Elections.
