Covid-19: Ex-LASIMRA GM, Jide Odekunle, dies at Onikan Isolation Centre

Immediate past General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), Chief Jide Odekunle, has died.

Odekunle, who was GM during the administration of Akinwunmi Ambode, reportedly died of Coronavirus complications at the Onikan Isolation Centre, Lagos.

The Lagos socialite was reported to have driven himself to the Isolation Center in the company of his wife, and passed on shortly after.

He was also the former secretary of Ikoyi Club and until his death the Bobagunwa of Egbaland.

Odekunle is another prominent Nigerian to have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Nigeria’s first identified fatality was a former Managing Director of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Suleiman Achimugu in March.

Ex-Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari; Ola, younger wife of Oladipo Diya, a retired army general and second in command to late former head of state, Sani Abacha and immediate past Group General Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, followed.

Others are Senator Bayo Osinowo, Director of finance in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ibanga Etang, Nigeria-based African American broadcaster and most recently ex-Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

Lagos remains the epicentre of the coronavirus with over 11,000 of the country’s 28167 cases.
