Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for defending democracy following his re-election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday afternoon, declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party winner of the governorship election in Edo.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, announced the total result of the election.
He said APC polled 223,619 votes, while PDP got 307,955 votes.
In reaction, Governor Obaseki commended President Buhari for allowing a free, fair and transparent exercise in the state.
His words, “I would like to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for defending our democracy and allowing the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security services to perform their function without interference.
“INEC and the security operatives have shown Nigerians and indeed the rest of the world that they can conduct a free and credible election.”
The governor also thanked his supporters, the PDP and everyone who stood by him.
