The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its governorship primary in Edo State to June 23.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, announced this on Thursday via Twitter.

“@OfficialPDPNig has postponed its primary election in Edo State to Tuesday, June 23rd 2020,” he wrote.

The party will now hold its governorship primary 24 hours after the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its primary on June 22.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, is yet to announce which party he intends to seek re-election from after he left the APC for being disqualified from contesting in its primary.

However, analysts suggest that the incumbent governor may likely switch to the PDP fold and the delay in the primary is a coy to finalise his switch.

Recall that Mr Obaseki, had last week, met with some high-ranking members of the main opposition, including Governors Nyesom Wike and Udom Emmanuel of Rivers and Akwa Ibom States respectively.

There are also suggestions that he may likely return to the APC following the Appeal Court’s ruling that affirmed Adams Oshiomhole’s suspension as National Chairman.
