The Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has laid charges of money laundering on Obi Cubana’s associates, Lucky Uchechukwu Ndukwe and one Precious Omonkhoa Ofure.

They were arraigned on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the Special Offences Court in Ikeja before Justice O.A Fadipe.

The defendants were recently arrested by EFCC officials over fraudulent charges on conspiracy to launder money and money laundering respectively.

Items recovered from them include the sum of $164,000.00, iPhone mobile devices and laptop computers.

“That you, Precious Omonkhoa Ofure and Lucky Uchechukwu Ndukwe, sometime in 2021 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did conspire amongst yourselves and laundered an aggregate sum of $164,000 (One Hundred and Sixty-four Thousand Dollars), which form part of $256,314 (Two Hundred and Fifty-six Thousand, Three Hundred and Fourteen United States Dollars) fraudulently obtained by false pretence from one Elena Bogomaz, a Canadian Citizen, and converted the fraudulent money into the United States Dollars with the help of a Bureau De ChangeOperator, which was then credited into the bank account of Casa Cubana Estate Limited and Lucky Uchechukwu Ndukwe respectively for the purchase of two and landed properties and committed an offence contrary to Section 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,” the charge read.

While Ofure pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charges and is set to receive his punishment, Ndukwe plead ‘not guilty’.

Ofure is sentenced to three years in prison on two counts of conspiracy and money laundering. He is also given an option to pay a sum of Two Million Naira and 100 days of community service.

In reaction to this, the club owner, Obi Cubana questioned why he had to be dragged into their mess.

According to him, these people were paid to tarnish his image by using his pictures alongside the defendants.

He said, “How much did they pay you people to include my photo? I see what you are doing.”
