Reckless gatherings are feared to derail Lagos in the onset of COVID-19 second wave as cases continue to rise across the country.
The Presidential Task Force (PTF) has stated that the operation of major social centres in Lagos could lead to an increase in the population of isolation centers as a result of the further spread of the virus.
It also observed that people hang out recklessly without observing laid down COVID-19 protocols.
A source, who is believed to be an Isreali has claimed that Sheraton Hotel Ikeja is now being used as Isolation Centres, filled with sick expatriates, suspected to be suffering from COVID-19 complications.
The unconfirmed report claimed that “Sheraton is full of sick expatriates. One floor there is currently full.”
The Israeli also expressed fears that he might have contacted the virus, naming Boat Club or Ikoyi Club as the two likely places he must’ve contacted it from as they are his usual spots for socialization and hangouts.
The report is yet to be confirmed by authorities of the 5-Star hotel as efforts to reach the hotel through a phone call proved abortive.
KaftanPost reports shows that Sheraton Hotel is officially not for medical treatment purposes but many hotels in Lagos are unwittingly used by guests, travellers, and non-travellers alike, who are under voluntary or medically mandated isolation.
However, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, had earlier stressed the need for residents to strictly adhere to precautionary measures against COVID-19 infection transmission to prevent a recurrence of the situation that led to the lockdown of the economy.
Abayomi stressed that a resurgence of cases in Lagos may lead to the reversal of the strategically calculated measures put in place by the Government to open up the economy.
