The Lagos State governorship candidate of Labour Party Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour,l says he promise to prioritise the involvement of women in government if elected into office.

He said this while addressing his supporters at a meeting held in Alimosho, Lagos.

In his words, “Generally, I believe that you need to have women involved in things if you want to succeed. Women make up more than 50 per cent of the population in Lagos State. For me, I will ensure we have as many women as possible in government; ensuring that we provide credits to women in Lagos State. When you give women credit, you know that you are actually taking care of a whole family.

“We will also ensure that women are assisted in every sphere of business. These include many rights and not just the superficial things; the right of a woman that is divorced. In Lagos State, you can just divorce a woman and she is starting afresh and that is not right; and you know that a woman has so many children depending on her, these make some of the children grow and become a menace to society.”

Rhodes-Vivour added that he was ready to give equal attention to both indigenes and non indigenes in the state.

“Lagos State is a state that is for everybody; a state that allows for peaceful co-existence. My grandfather was a judge. He had two children. Two of them went to the East to get married. Aside from being from Lagos State as an indigene, my mother is from Abia State. And with that, I followed the wisdom of my dad to go to Anambra State and get my wife. So you know that your interests are safe with me, because I know your pain. We are at a tipping point. The moment we are in is very important. No matter where you come from, as long as you are in Lagos, the state should work for you. And the only way you are going to achieve this is by having servant leadership. Put me in that office and I will work for you.”
