Social media influencer, Nwagbo Chidera Oliver, also known as Pankeeroy, has been released.
Pankeeroy took to his Instagram account on Friday, May 28, 2021, to release a statement regarding his arrest.
The influencer was arrested by EFCC on April 24, 2021, over alleged internet and bitcoin fraud.
There was no petition against him prior to his arrest, according to the released statement made by his lawyer, Tope Salami.
An excerpt of the statement reads; “The arrest was based on discreet information that our client was an enthusiast of digital currency solely in the year 2020…”
“It is worthy to state that there was no form of petition against our client and as such, implied that no crime in whatever form was perpetrated against any person(s), company, or establishment by our client.
“Upon questioning and facts finding by officers of the commission, our client was released as there was no form of nexus linking him to the purported commission of the investigated crime.”
Pankeeroy is alleged to have been involved in ‘Bitcoin scam,’ an illicit act he said he started after falling into depression.
According to the EFCC, the comedian posed as a vendor, who redeems bitcoin vouchers using a platform to defraud his unsuspecting victims.
However, the IG influencer has stated he did nothing wrong. His lawyer, Tope Salami added that there will be legal actions taken against those who sponsored “defamatory notes and statements” during his client’s arrest.
