Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Friday ordered the withdrawal of policemen attached to Ibrahim Magu, former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A police source disclosed this to Kaftanpost on Friday night.
In a directive to the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Police Mobile Force (PMF), PMF squadrons one to 79, and Force Secretary, Adamu ordered the redeployment of the mobile policemen attached to the EFCC.
While ordering those withdrawn to report at the force headquarters in Abuja on Monday morning, the IGP said only the staff of EFCC would be allowed access into the commission’s premises.
This directive indicated that visitors, complainants, suspects and even journalists, would not be allowed into the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, as well as other EFCC offices, as from Monday unless otherwise approved by the IGP.
It would be recalled that Magu was arrested on Monday and taken before the Presidential panel headed by a retired President of the Appeal Court, Ayo Salami.
He was later transferred to Area 10 Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police in Abuja where he has been detained since Monday.
Kaftanpost report that Magu’s travails followed a memo by Abubakar Malami accusing him of serious misconduct.
Among other allegations, he was alleged to have mismanaged the recovered treasure and sold seized assets to acquaintances.
He was also alleged to have refused to subject himself to the supervision of the office of the Attorney-General.
To allow for unhindered inquiry by the panel investigating him, President Buhari on Friday approved Magu’s suspension, while he ordered that EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards.
