The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Prince Adewole Adebayo says he will improve on the blueprint of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola to end poverty of elected president in next month’s poll.

Adebayo, who stated this when his campaign train recently touched Ogun State, said the country wouldn’t have become the poverty capital of the world if successive governments had worked on a poverty alleviation scheme as presented in the late business mogul’s manifesto in 1993.

The renowned lawyer recalled that 30 years ago, he and his friend would go to Toyin Street and other parts of Lagos, to paste Abiola’s posters of which programme was poverty eradication.

In his words, “the best thing to do was to present that same message, which Abiola presented because what Abiola did was to see tomorrow. To see that handwork of poverty coming up little by little and he raises an alarm that we must see that it was abolished.

“30 years after, officially, Nigeria have been given the poverty capital of the world and that poverty has given birth to corruption. Until we end poverty, it might affect the next generation. I felt very bad that 30 years after when I and my good friend used to paste the poster of Abiola on poverty elimination, it is surprising that after those years there is still a higher rate of poverty in Nigeria,” he added.
