As the deadly coronavirus continues to spread rapidly in Nigeria with 1,182 confirmed cases and Kano State having 77 cases, the fear and anxiety that have gripped Kano residents over the noticeable increase in the numbers of the dead, continued unabatedly.

The state witnessed at least 23 high-profile deaths in the past 24 hours due to reasons yet to be ascertained, checks by KAFTAN Post revealed.

Kaftan Post authoritatively gather that over 200 people died in Kano between 17th April and Saturday 24th, as their cause of death remains unknown.

It was gathered that not a few suspects that the eminent personalities, who just died, might have succumbed to strange illness since there was no evidence of their being tested for Coronavirus since the Covid-19 Testing Centre in Kano have been shut down with no definite date for resumption of the test in the most populous state in Nigeria.

The dead personalities are: Professor Ibrahim Ayagi, CEO of Hassan, Gwarzo School Alh. Dahiru Rabiu, Former Grand Khadi. Dr. Musa Umar Gwarzo. Mal Musa Tijjani, former Editor of Triumph Newspaper. Alh. Adamu Isyaku Dal, former SUBEB Boss and Alhaji Salisu Lado”.

Others are: Haj Shamsiyya Mustapha, Haj Nene Umma. Alh. Garba Sarki Fagge. Dr. Nasiru Maikano Bichi Secretary. Student Affairs NWU. Prof. Aliyu Umar Dikko of Physiology Department, BUK. Alh Idi Mai Lemo Sheka, Captain Abdullahi Gyadi Gyadi Ja’oji Qtrs

There are fears that the deceased must have died as a result of a strange ailment, amid the recent coronavirus outbreak.

It would be recalled that KAFTAN Post reported earlier that the unprecedented rise in the number of dead people across the state has created apprehensions and concern over an outbreak of disease as three cemeteries have witnessed astronomic increase in the number of burials being recorded.

The State Government has instituted an investigation to determine the causes of these and other recent deaths. The Ministry of Health is conducting the investigation.

This is happening as the state awaits the resumption of COVID-19 tests which was suspended last Wednesday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to enable it fumigate the testing centres.

Although there are no indicators connecting the mounting deaths being recorded in the state to the ravaging COVID-19, the death rate in the state is becoming alarming.

The late Prof. Ayagi was a Commissioner for Economic Development in the State from 1975-1978, just as he was also a former Director-General of Kano Foundation from 1987-1990. Ayagi, who is also the proprietor of Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo College in Kano, died on Saturday, after a protracted illness at the age 80.

Prof. Aliyu Umar Dikko was former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) at the Bayero University Kano (BUK). He was involved in the opening of three faculties of Medicine/Basic Medical Sciences in Bayero University, Kaduna State University and Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

As for Lawal, KAFTAN Post gathered, that the First Bank Regional Manager in Kano, died from a suspected case of COVID-19.

Medical experts have cited several other reasons for the high wave of deaths being recorded in the state, which they believe has to do with the present unfavourable weather condition being experienced in the state.

While Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, had on Wednesday dismissed as false claims that the state is being ravaged by a mysterious disease that has led to mass deaths and burials across the state, the Kano State Ministry of Health Saturday, called for calm saying the ministry had already launched an investigation to unravel the real cause of the deaths in the state.
