The Atlas Lions of Morocco have defeated Spain to qualify for the quarter final of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup for the first time ever.

They become the fourth African team to reach this stage after Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.

This is also the first time ever Morocco will qualify to the quarter-final in the World Cup.

After a fierce 123 minutes at the Education City Stadium in Qatar, Morocco did the impossible to defeat 2010 World Cup winners Spain 3-0 on penalties.

Achraf Hakimi, the Spain-born Morocco right-back last kick kicked the Spaniards out, the country he could have played for.

In a fabulous performance, Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou saved all three penalties from the Spanish side.

Morocco also finished top of Group F over European giants Belgium and Croatia as well as Canada, with seven points.
