My coronavirus infection has taught me humility and gratitude, immigration boss says

Nigerian Immigration Service boss, Muhammed Babandede, has said if there are things that his coronavirus taught him, it was humility and gratitude.

While reflecting on his experience since he has received his result of the coronavirus tests, Babandede appreciated all the well-wishers who have been praying for his quick recovery.

It would be recalled that Babandede, 57, who is one of the longest serving Comptroller-Generals of the Immigration Service and is due to retire in a few months, had last week, upon his return from a foreign tour, been tested for the dreaded coronavirus and found positive, thereby joining the growing list of high-profile Nigerians who have tested positive for the virus.

The wife of the outgoing Immigration boss, who had accompanied the husband was more fortunate as she tested negative, a result which suggests that medical scientists still have a lot to learn about the probability of factors which predispose or expose persons to the risks of being infected upon contact with a COVID-19 patient.

Mr. Babandede, kaftanpost, can authoritatively confirm has not manifested any aggressive or serious symptoms of the disease. He however remains in isolation as is clinically mandated.

In the short video he circulated online in the early morning on Wednesday, Babandede said:

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen

“I would like to thank all my friends, loved ones, Muslims and Christians in Nigeria and abroad for their enormous prayers for my quick recovery.

“I am very, very grateful for your prayers.

“In the reality, your prayers are helping me to recover quickly.

“Allah knows better but I thank Him for given me the opportunity to be sick as I see it as an opportunity to humble myself and to also know that I am loved by such a large number of people.

“Today, the 1st of April, I am sending this short video to you and to tell you that I am doing well.

“Please take care always. Wash your hands. Maintain social distance. This disease is real and above all, continue to pray so that Nigeria will be saved from any disaster.

“The numbers (of infected people) are still small, but we should pray that the number don’t grow.

“The distinguished ladies and gentlemen, thank you and God bless you for all your prayers.

“I send my love to you, especially people from my village. They have prayed. I also thank people from Kano, Lagos, Abuja and other places I cannot even mention. Thank you very much for the love. God bless you. Salaam!”
