The campaign convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was today allegedly attacked in many places at Owo Local Government by heavily armed APC political thugs.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the media aide to the Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, Samuel Fasua, on Tuesday 29th September, 2020.
The statement read:
“PDP member was shot today during campaign rally in Owo town by the APC thugs. The victim who is still lying unconscious is now being rushed to the hospital.”
The statement further read, “Besides, some of our campaign vehicles were damaged, as was witnessed in Oba-Akoko community recently.
“Earlier in the day, the same APC armed hoodlums blocked the entry point to Ipele community, Jegede’s maternal home, and attempted to turn back the campaign team.
“This spate of attacks on our members by the ruling party in the state is threatening the peace of the state, and is apparently intended to cause violence ahead of the October 10 governorship election”.
Fasua however ended the statement maintaining:
“We are calling on the Inspector-General of Police, the human rights community, and other international bodies to come to our rescue in Ondo State.
“We want a free and fair election, but the party in power does not.”
It would be recalled that this is coming up after a similar occurrence happened in Oba-Akoko area of the state when in a viral video, some hoodlums brandished with guns inside an APC branded campaign vehicle shot in the air, injuring no fewer than 4 persons and vandalising some campaign vehicles belonging to the PDP. One APC owned vehicle was reportedly set ablaze by thesame hoodlums.
Meanwhile, attempts to reach the spokesman of the APC in Ondo State for further clarifications on the issue proved abortive as his telephone line was out of reach at the time of filing this report.
