There was near-tragedy at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday after two aeroplanes collided at the international wing of the airport.

An Airbus A330-243 owned by Middle East Airlines with registration number OD-MEA crashed into a Boeing 777 aeroplane with registration number TC-LJC, operated by Turkish Airlines.

KaftanPost sources revealed that the Turkish cargo flight was parked at the tarmac while the Middle East airbus, which was taxying, ran into it thereby damaging the empennage of the aircraft.

It was revealed that the MEA Airbus, which was already boarding passengers, had to disembark after the crash.

KaftanPost also got wind of suspected malpractice at the airport under the guise of evacuation flights.

Middle East Airline and others had been carrying out commercial operations under the disguise of evacuation flights.

They fly in and out almost thrice weekly with the pretence of evacuating some nationals as a regular practice since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

Recall that despite the international travel restrictions, the international routes have only been open to evacuations, emergency flights for diplomats or government officials or COVID-19 patients among other special categories excluding passenger flights.
