The people Democratic party (PDP) senatorial candidate Mr Patrick Akinyelure has  defeated the two term governor of Ondo state Olusegun Mimiko of Zenith Labour Party and the sitting senator Tayo Alasoadura of All progressive congress (APC) of Ondo central with total vote of 66,978.

All Progress Congress (APC) candidate scored total vote of 58028, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) scored votes of 56624.

There was uproar when the returning officer initially refused to declared the winner saying that the total number of vote cancelled was more than the total number of votes cast.

After a lot of disagreement between party agents present at the collation centre, Professor Mustapha Bello the chief returning officer later declared Patrick Akinyelure of PDP the winner of Ondo senatorial seat having scored the highest vote in the election.

” I give thanks to God that the Election is free fair and credible, and I am happy that I defeated the sitting Ondo central senator and the former Governor of Ondo state” he added.

The governorship election in Ondo state will come up next year while Ondo indigenes eagerly await the state house of Assembly next week Saturday
