The Zamfara State Police Command on Thursday, dismissed reports of an attack by kidnappers on Sokoto State Mass Transit Bus and the kidnapping of the passengers at Kwashabawa village in Zurmi local government.
In a statement by the Zamfara State PPRO, SP Mohammed Shehu, the Police described the reports as an imagination of mischief makers to instil fear into the citizenry.
Mohammed Shehu explained that the bus was never attacked but the passengers fled the area out of fear, leaving their luggage when the bus developed a mechanical fault.
The Statement reads “The report is fictitious and an imagination of mischief makers who derive pleasure in spreading rumours to instil fear into the citizenry.
“The true position of things was that, today at about 0900hours, a Mass transit Bus conveying passengers from Sokoto to Katsina developed a mechanical fault along the area in question.
“The passengers were apprehensive and jittery, hence they all scattered & took to flight, leaving the bus & their luggage. The Police in Zurmi got the information & rushed to the scene.
“They offloaded all the passengers luggage and brought same to the Police station for safe keeping to avoid miscreants stealing the passengers valuables. All the passengers later emerged, claimed their luggage, and left.”
The Police Command, therefore, urged the good citizens of the State to shun the viral pictures and avoid spreading the misleading information that can retard societal cohesion & progress.
