A group of dare-devil armed robbers, terrorising the Lekki suburbs of Victoria Island, Lagos State, on Wednesday, met their Waterloo.
The notorious five-man gang, who were engaged in their usual act of terror, ran out of luck this time in an estate (name withheld) due to the intervention of an off-duty police officer.
The officer was on a private to the besieged estate before stumbling into the gang of criminals.
The highly alert police officer radioed for the Rapid Response Squad and the felons were caught in their nefarious activities.
In a firefight that ensued, the law enforcers got the better of the lawbreakers.
Four out of five gun-toting armed robbers were shot dead, leaving a somewhat lucky survivor, a teenage looking male who was shot in the leg and immobilised.
KAFTANPost gathered that it was through careful use of this teenage criminal captive that the police intelligently lured the remainder of the criminal cohorts out of their lair to have their day with justice.
A police source informed our reporter that the law agents are much wiser by now about the informant that tipped the criminal gang about the booty they had come to cart away by the force of arms.
Since the lockdown, the security situation in Lagos and other big cities in Nigeria which was not in any way a paradise has become something of a hell.
However, the police and other law enforcement agencies have intensified patrol and surveillance to combat hooligans and armed robbers who have made it their stock in trade to rob, maim and murder people and thereby murder sleep for many hapless residents locked down in the nation’s desperate efforts to combat the global pandemic of coronavirus.
