The Social Democratic Party has distanced itself from an alleged plot by 13 political parties to boycott the forthcoming general elections.

Prince Adewole Adebayo, the party’s presidential candidate, made this known in a tweet on Monday.

While lamenting the hardship caused by the current naira swap, Adebayo said the SDP is solely focused on the polls.

“Social Democratic Party SDP is committed to contesting Presidential, National and State elections slated for February and March 2023. SDP, a major political party with credible and popular candidates working hard for victory is NOT part of any ’13 parties’ threatening a boycott,” he wrote.

The National Chairman, Coalition of Chairmen of Political Parties, Kenneth Udeze, had earlier alleged that some political parties may pull out of the exercise if the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria once again extend the deadline for the swap of the naira notes.

The presidential and National Assembly elections are slated for February 25 while the while governorship and state assembly elections polls will be held on March 11.
