The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has called for honest leadership in the country.

Adebayo made this call when he led his presidential team to visit the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Monday, for consultation ahead of the 2023 Presidential elections.

The Presidential candidate’s words were made known in a post via his social media handle while noting that “CAN and I agree that Nigeria’s diversity is a blessing from God and that honest leadership is what Nigeria needs for #HopeAgain2023. I’m grateful for the prayers of CAN for our quest.”

According to the renowned lawyer, there is no mystery about leadership in Nigeria.

In his words “There is no mystery about leadership in Nigeria. It is just that the right leader has to come with the right heart, with the right people. The people at the right, at the left, the people around must be ready to do the right thing. There is nothing mystical about this country other than God is paying us in our own coin.”

While reacting to a question on insecurity and the closure of schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Adebayo said before schools were shut, presidency has been shut down for seven years.

“Before our schools were shut down, the presidency has been shut down for seven years,” he said

He added that “The government has shut itself down. So if we are not careful, the government will be the bandit and the bandit will be arresting the government. So we need to be serious, we need to do the work, we need people who are in security to pay attention and we need the President to protect us, to be the commander in chief.

“All the problems of which the latest, we have banditry; the latest of which is our revenue shortfall, such that our debt services is bigger than our income. It all arises from the deficit of our honesty.

“That we are not honest people and when we are given authority to exercise, we don’t do it honestly. If we change our ways, God’s blessings will he upon us”.

On his part, CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, who also spoke to the press said there is a need for people who are touched by God to contest for Presidency.

“We need as many people as God has touched to contest for the presidency so that people will ample opportunities to choose the right leader,” he said.
