The Supreme Court has affirmed Lawal Adamu Usman as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Kaduna State.
In a judgment on Friday, a five-member panel of the court affirmed the December 19, 2022 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which revered an earlier decision of a Federal High Court in Kaduna.
The court dismissed the appeal by Ibrahim Usman on the grounds that issues raised were within the internal affairs of the political party over which the court lacked jurisdiction.
In the lead judgment, written by Justice Helen Ogunwumiju, but read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the court held that the decision of the PDP National Working Committee in relation the May 23, 2022 primary election was in order and could not be faulted.
Recall that the Court of Appeal in Abuja had, in a December 19, 2022 judgment set aside the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court, Kaduna, voiding Usman’s nomination.
