A fire outbreak at the premises of Television Continental (TVC) in Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos forced the station to go off air on Wednesday morning.

The fire was reportedly started by hoodlums in retaliation of the alleged killing of protesters by security agents at the Lekki Toll Plaza on Tuesday night.

TVC is believed to be owned by former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu.

Morayo Brown, who was anchoring the popular ‘Your View’ disclosed during a live show that a mob was trying to force its way into the premises.

The station subsequently went off air.

TVC has been criticised for not giving full coverage to the ongoing protest.

The television station in a statement on Wednesday, however, denied the reports.

“We do not in anyway encourage or support the killings of innocent protesters or youth. As an organization, we share in the pain of the people and we support the right to peaceful protest,” it wrote on Twitter.

“We have read the comments and reactions from our followers on Twitter and the larger online community of users who have proffered their opinion about our reportage of the #EndSARS protests in the last 13 days.

“As journalists, we have a duty to our diverse audiences across multiple platforms to keep the flow of information up to date, and as accurate as possible to avoid trivializing facts or watering down critical information.

“With this duty comes the responsibility of striking a balance and ensuring that we do not disseminate inaccurate information to the detriment of any and all parties.

“We are appealing to #EndSARS protesters, Twitter and the general online community to engage with us by sending us videos and a narrative of events as they unfold. Please send DMs, tweets and tag us
