Comedian Ayo Makun aka AY has finally reacted to Seun Kuti over his skit. He dragged the singer’s father to their mess.
AY stated that Seun’s father, Fela Kuti, used to ‘yab’ politicians and there was a special day slated for the ‘yabbing’.
Recall that the singer on his Instagram page hours ago had called AY out for using a dog to portray his daughter in his skit.
He stated that his skit had infuriated him and he was happy his house got burnt.
In a video, AY cleared the air about how he used a dog to portray his messages. He said he used three stories to make the skit.
According to him, his skit was centered on Seun Kuti’s police assault, Hilda Baci and another person.
AY pointed out that he is sensitive to children’s topics and would never have intentionally portrayed a child in such a manner.
Going further, he stated that Fela had equally used jokes and songs to address his opinions on politicians and people laughed to it.
In his words, he said, “Hello Seun, this is to address the sensationalism that’s been created around social media space. I decided to respond to this because you mentioned your child.
“I love children. So, the minute you referred to the skit I did addressing your baby as a dog, I just felt the need to address this. I’m one human being who looked for a child for 13 years. I don’t think I will find myself in the position to mock a child and refer to that child as a dog.
“Concerning the skit I made sometime in June, I want to categorically say that I’m a stand-up comedian. As stand-up comedians, we run social comments on different activities on trending issues. But I’ve come to understand that in Nigeria now people take comedians seriously and take the politicians as the jokers.
“If you’re familiar with my brand and style of comedy, AY Live, everything that you see I do, I do a lot of stage dramas and then we just talk about trending issues. Now, the skit was a reflection of trending issues. I talked about fuel subsidy which was trending at that time.
“And if recall, at that time Hilda Baci and Enioluwa were both trending for eating dog meat. And a woman called them out. And then I mentioned the name Hilda [in the scene where the dog was sitting in the back seat of the car in the skit]. That was what I was portraying in that video.”
He added, “For some reasons, I know that you have traveled far and wide. Your sense of humour should be more open to jokes if we say it’s a joke and then you can take it as a joke. You throw shades, Seun. Nobody comes for you.
“Your dad used to do ‘yabbings’ night. Yabbing everybody in politics…. He used to do all of that and people go there to laugh because they know that he is a social commentator. He’s doing his job. We are doing the same thing. So, I don’t see why you take offence on my own. Your father taught us this job.
“As I am here, I take jokes. Whenever the joke is on me, I just laugh because I know that these people don’t mean anything. They are just joking. Jokes are meant to be jokes.”
In response, Seun declined his apology. He wrote, “You are a d**k bro. Your move was a d**k move. I ain’t interested in your explanations cos I watched your video. The timing of it, the meaning of it nothing was lost on me. I will only address your lies.
“Your children are ‘bla bla bla’ speech. The only person sitting in the back seat of my car was my daughter! What did u put in the back seat of your dry skit?! You guys must really think you are something you know.
“You must really think you are something! The spineless behavior that you all call careers, you must really think it’s something. Werey dey tag me for video sha. Negro please!!”
