President Volodymyr Zelensky has applauded the visit of U.S top officials in
Kyiv towards helping the country survive the ongoing invasion by Russia.
Zelensky in a statement said : “Dear Secretary of State Mr. Blinken, Dear Mr. Austin, Minister of Defense, we are glad to see you in Kyiv at such an important moment for our country.
“Thank you very much to the United States who are really helping Ukraine. I want to thank, and personally thank, President Biden for his personal support of Ukraine.
“Separately, I would like to say that no one has provided Ukraine with such large financial assistance for armament in the amount of $3.4 billion so far, and I would like to thank you for that.”
While responding, US Secretary of State, Anthony Bliken said: “We’re honored to be here. President Biden felt strongly that we should find the earliest opportunity just to show in Kyiv our support but also to continue in detail the very important conversations that we’ve been having with all of your colleagues on the agenda that you cited.”
“As a further sign of our commitment. I intend to announce the return of our diplomats to Ukraine, I think we will start probably in Lviv and then move to Kyiv, it may take a few weeks but I’ll announce that tomorrow.
“In addition, the president will announce his intent to nominate Bridget Brink as our next ambassador to Ukraine.”
Also speaking at the meeting was U.S Secretary of Defense, Lhoyd Austin, who assured him of the support of the United States in the ongoing war.
Austin said: “We are here to support you in every way possible. I think you’ve seen the evidence of that throughout but most recently as you’ve mentioned the commitment of an additional billion dollars’ worth of security assistance on top of some of the other things that we’ve done.”
Recall that recently, the President announced the United States is prepared to provide more than $1 billion in new funding toward humanitarian assistance for those affected by Russia’s war in Ukraine and its severe impacts around the world, including a rise in food insecurity.
