The Social Democratic Party presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, says Nigerians need character, competence and courage for things to change.

Adebayo made this remark on Monday at the opening plenary of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima were also in attendance.

The candidates were invited as panellists to speak on “Democratic Transitions in the 21st Century Nigeria: 2023 and Beyond”.

In his address, Adebayo said things haven’t changed in the country because “we haven’t changed the politicians”.

“We keep re-electing them,” he added. “That there’s no money in the economy is one big lie we get told every day. If there’s no money, how do politicians fund expensive elections? There is money.

“The revenue being captured is less than 20 per cent of the actual revenue. When you bring in transparency, you will have more money.

“All of these projects, whether its power, 4,000 megawatts, we have invested to the tune of 32,000 megawatts. But the money is in private pocket. So we need three things.

“We must bring character, competence and courage”.
