The former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as a redemption camp for politicians facing corruption allegations and trials.

The controversial politician made this claim on his Twitter page on Monday, alleging that any politician that steals and joins APC will be forgiven and their corruption cases dropped.

”APC is a Redemption camp. Steal and renounce your party, join APC and your sins are forgiven, EFCC cases dropped and seized passports returned. Jekinje party, ” he wrote.

Dino Melaye became a Senator under the ruling APC before he decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He failed to win in his bid to return to the Senate for the second time in 2019.

Howbeit, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, also made similar claim about the APC when he stated that ”killers have joined APC” as the party continues to welcome new members from the PDP during its membership revalidation exercise.

Aregbesola had said “Though the constitution allows everyone to register as a member of any political party, even if they are suspects, murderers, character assassinators, etc, but those who constitute the majority of the party membership must represent the core values of the party.

“There must be a clear distinction between jolly good fellows and fair-weather friends who will still leave our party when they sense a better opportunity elsewhere.”

Meanwhile, the PDP Kola Ologbondiyan, said those joining the APC had left their party long ago.

Reacting to the recent defection of Gbenga Daniel to the APC, he said:

“Otunba Gbenga Daniel, immediately after the 2019 election, gave a public notice that he was leaving the party and that he was leaving politics completely. In March 2020, about a year ago, Gbenga Daniel in a public appearance declared that his people had come to ask him to leave for the APC one year ago and that he had no choice but to obey his people and he had since then been working with the governor of Ogun State so where is the news coming from that he just left the PDP?

“If there is any decamping regarding Otunba Gbenga Daniel, that means he decamped from one APC faction to another. Even in the message he gave out some days ago, he said he had been with the governor of Ogun State which means he had left the PDP since last year, so it was nothing new but what Nigerians must understand is that because of the failure of revalidation and registration exercise being conducted by the APC, they are looking for big names from the PDP, they cannot find and that’s why they are picking remarkable people who left the party long ago as having left now.”
