Crew members and passengers are feared dead in a plane crash on Sunday afternoon in Abuja.

The chattered private plane crashed just outside the airport, less than five minutes after takeoff.

It was gathered that the pilot already lost control of the plane and would have landed into a residential area but he made a successful effort to maneuver into a free bush where it crashed.

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika confirmed this sad event on his Twitter handle when he wrote, “A military aircraft Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure, enroute Minna. It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm and wait for the outcome of investigation by the military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls of any.”

Details of the casualties are still unknown at press time but early pictures of the scene saw the plane in flames with no sign of survivors.

  1. Was this fatal crash and wanton loss of young lives the result of lack of maintenance as a culture that characterises public properties in Nigeria? Or was it the lackadaisical attitude of never planning or preparing for major assignments that characterises even out International meetings and conventions? What was the mission of this flight and Crew? Were they goung to locate the abducted school boys and/or the abductors? If any or all of the above was their mission, I’ll say it was really a suicidal mission in futility. My reason is that the entire country is aware that Sheik Gumi knows it all and their lives would have been saved for their families if this mission had been left to him. The Airforce didn’t know before Sheik Ghumi showed the world his pictures taken with the masked Terrorists in their majesty anyway so why the risk these young lives for God’s sake. May God Almighty codole their families who are going to suffer as families of those valiant ones lost before them.
