While fasting, as Muslims there are other things expected of us. Due to Ramadan, all good deeds, righteousness and goodness are practised as the Prophet Muhammad encouraged.

Charity

The act of giving is a part of the season. Like Allah said, among those people who give alms from the little they have is an act of righteousness. Sharing comes with appreciation which increases the love amongst one another.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “the best charity that one can do and earn reward from Allah is one done in the holy month”. This is widely recognised these days unlike in the past. The prophet (SAW) also said whosoever feeds or assists someone to break his/ her fast will get an additional reward. Hence, it is encouraged we extend hands of fellowship and goodwill to others.

We are also urged to stand at night and supplicate before the Almighty Allah. Most prayers done at dusk are more acceptable.  It means there is less traffic and communication is much more seamless then.

During the holy month, we are advised to read the holy Quran as much as possible. We are also to listen to lectures and teachings during this period. It is good to use the period of Ramadan to get the reward of reading, studying, meditating and putting all learnt from the Quran into practice.

Furthermore, one is expected to seclude himself or herself in a mosque during Ramadan, especially in the last 10 days. By doing so, worship, studying, prayers and shared knowledge are easier. We can equally set aside a place of our own to carry out the aforementioned and expand our knowledge of Islam.
