A socio-political youth organisation in the South West, Apapo Egba Ewe Yoruba has urged the Lagos State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to call it’s thugs to order to halt xenophobic attacks on non-indigenes living in state.
A statement issued by the Coordinator and Secretary of the group, Babatunde Hassan and Ridwan Olaposi in Lagos on Monday added that the party risks incurring the wrath of Yoruba youths should the trend continues.
There have been reports of xenophobic attacks against non-indigenes living in the state by thugs suspected to be members of the APC in state.
Mostly people from the Igbo ethnic stock, traders in areas such as Oshodi, Okota, Apapa and other areas are reported to have been prevented from trading by APC thugs who claimed they voted for the opposition People’s Democratic Party.
Reports have indicated that some of traders sustained various degrees of injuries during attacks.
Reacting to the development, the group cautioned the National Leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu against setting the local indigenes in the state against their guests in the name politics.
“We are calling on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to call his boys to order in the interest of peace and prosperity of the state,” he said, adding that the prosperity that the state has witnessed was achieved combined efforts of both the locals and their guests.
According to the group, the actions of the miscreants have portrayed the Yoruba ethnic nationality in bad light, saying, “our people are known to be civil in their approach to issues.”
While admonishing the ruling party to always toe the line of decency and decorum in all its public and private conduct, the group added that it might be forced to call out its members to help maintain peace in the state.
“Judging by the conduct of the APC in recent times, we are inclined to say that it leaves so much be desired. This has constantly bothered us as a youth group. We are also using this to express our desire to help maintain peace in the state by deploy our members to protect the non-indigines.” He concluded.
