Lagos State Police declare restriction order, call for peaceful conduct

The Lagos State Police Command has declared restriction of movement between the hours of 6am to 6pm on Saturday, December 5, 2020.

The declaration was made in a bid to ensure a free, fair and credible bye elections into the Lagos East Senatorial and Kosofe 11 constituency, Lagos State.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, made this known on Thursday, December 5, while conferring on plans put in place with the election monitoring officers deployed from the Force Headquarters Abuja, to ensure a peaceful, free and fair election.

The election monitoring team has reported to the Lagos State Police Command today, December 3, in preparation for the disposal and monitoring of the election process.

The team comprises of two Commissioners of Police, some Assistant Commissioners of Police and other officers, led by the Commissioner of Police, Community Policing, Force Headquarters, CP Kola Okunola.

A reasonable number of Police Personnel and security agents amounting to one thousand, nine hundred and twenty eight (1,928) has been deployed to the polling units in the area to ensure peace and for adequate monitoring during the election.

The few Local Government Areas are affected in this movement restriction for the two legislative seats and they are; Epe, Ibeju, Lekki, Kosofe, Somolu and Ikorodu.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem, has warned both vehicle and pedestrian movements in and out of these selected areas would be prohibited from 6am to 6pm on Saturday. This excludes those on election duties, essential services, accredited domestic, and foreign election observers.

He further warned electorates and Political gladiators to play the game according to the rules and provisions of the Electoral Acts 2010.

Hakeem warned that no Police or Security agents will be allowed to escort VIPs to polling units. He added that anyone who disobey this order will be arrested and be made to face the consequences.

The Commissioner of Police also assured the general public of their safety during the process of casting their votes, stating that the Police Force would ensure a free, fair, credible and acceptable election in the affected Local Government Areas in Lagos State.
