Out of 109 Senators, 107 Senators cast their votes. While Senator Ahmed Lawan scored a total number 79 votes, his only challenger, Senator Ali Ndume, polled a total number of 28 votes.
Having polled the highest number votes, Senator Ahmed Lawan of APC, was declared winner and subsequently sworn in by the Clark of the National Assembly.
Ongoing is the process for the election of Deputy Senate President.
