The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday announced 304 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 infection in the country to 44,433.
The NCDC made this revelation via its verified Twitter handle on Tuesday night.
The latest figure is one of the lowest in the last two weeks. It would be recalled that Nigeria has recorded daily cases below 500 since Friday, with Monday’s tally of 288 the lowest in nearly two months.
While Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had the highest daily figure of 90 on Tuesday, Lagos remains the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria with over 15, 414 cases and 192 deaths.
Abuja has had 4, 087 cases with 44 deaths to become the country’s second most impacted city by the virus.
Aside from FCT, other states where new cases were recorded on Tuesday were Lagos (59), Ondo (39), Taraba (18), Rivers (17), Borno (15), Adamawa (12), Oyo (11), Delta (9), Edo (6), Bauchi (4), Kwara (4), Ogun (4), Osun (4), Bayelsa (3), Plateau (3), Niger (3), Nasarawa (2) and Kano (1).
Despite the recent decline, the number of deaths on Tuesday was 14, raising the total to 910.
For more than three months since recording its first six COVID-19 cases on April 27, Taraba had maintained a zero fatatility rate, and was the only state in Nigeria with no coronavirus-related death.
However, that changed on Tuesday with four deaths and with the latest development, all 36 states and the FCT have each confirmed at least two COVID-19 deaths, with the current total at 910 fatalities.
However, with the increased figure of recoveries, the number of active cases in Nigeria has dropped to a record low, moving from more than 22,000 on Monday to 11,672 COVID-19 positive patients in all states except Kogi.
Nearly 290, 000 people have been tested thus far in the country of over 200 million population.
