The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says there is no going back on the demand by him and his allies for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike said Ayu had offered to step down if the party’s presidential candidate emerges from the north because he knows it is the right thing to do.
He however wondered why Ayu has refused to uphold his end of the bargain following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate for 2023.
The Rivers Governor condemned any form of marginalization and attempt to dominate others, submitting that such is a recipe for disaster.
He added that those who don’t understand their demands can continue to abuse him and his allies but their minds are made up and there is no going back on the matter as the future of the party and Nigeria as a whole depend on it.
Speaking further, Wike submitted that the call for Ayu’s resignation is not something that should be treated with levity.
He said the call is a demand for inclusion, justice, and fairness based on the promise made by Ayu himself in the build up to the PDP presidential primaries.
“He (Ayu) made that commitment because he knows that it will not be equitable, there will be no fairness and justice if the presidential candidate comes from the same zone with him. And people are trivializing the issue. Why do you trivialize the issue?” Wike queried.
